Walking Soccer – A Game for Everyone
Ever wondered about Walking Soccer? It’s a growing trend globally! Since 2011, over 800 events have taken place across the UK, and it’s now thriving in countries like Australia, Brazil, and Canada. It’s designed for players of all abilities, offering a non-contact, low-impact alternative to traditional soccer.
Global Reach, Local Impact
Walking soccer is a growing global trend, with over 800 events held in the UK and 115 clubs established to support the sport. In Australia, there are more than 4000 players participating, and in Brazil, several projects have been set up to promote inclusion for individuals aged 60 and older. The Federation of International Walking Football Associations (FIWFA), founded in 2018, is the international governing body dedicated to promoting and developing walking soccer worldwide. While walking soccer has gained significant traction internationally, its widespread establishment in Canada is still developing, with events held in cities like Halifax, Pickering, Oakville, and others. The Canadian Walking Soccer Association (CWSA) aims to increase awareness of the sport and expand access to local resources and events.
Growing, But Still Under the Radar
While walking soccer events have already been held in cities like Halifax, Pickering, and Oakville, the widespread awareness and establishment of walking soccer as a staple program is still developing across Canada.
